The Gamma-ray Large Area Telescope blasts into orbit in search of clues to how the universe works

The Telescope reached orbit on June 11 aboard a rocket launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. DRI Director Dr. Jonathan Ormes is senior advisor of the team working on the GLAST project at Stanford. With launch of GLAST, the human view of the violent gamma ray sky is expected to improve dramatically, providing fresh clues to the inside story of how the universe operates now and how it evolved.

DRI offers applied research and development expertise and support to government and industrial clients and sponsors. Most research activities and projects are directed toward specific problem solutions or research results, requiring specialized capability and well-equipped laboratories.

The Institute has been a part of cutting edge research and innovation for well over half-a-century now, and continues to lead the DU community in developing world-class solutions to real-world problems.

In addition to the physical and computer scientists, engineers and mathematicians on our staff, we have access to visiting scientists, consultants and advisors. We utilize the talents of the faculty at the University of Denver, as well as the combined skills of teams established with corporations, other universities and consortia.

DRI has a number of unique capabilities to offer our clients, such as the ability to conduct classified studies, and custom applied research, development and testing services. Our special skills include developing custom instrumentation, conducting vulnerability and risk analysis, and energetic materials testing. We can provide laboratory and field test sites and equipment, as well as custom research services, using our extensive facilities and capabilities.

DRI History

In 1947, the University of Denver Research Institute began operation as a nonacademic institute of the University of Denver, designed from the start to bring world-class research capabilities to the University, in an effort to more effectively capitalize on the resources found within its higher education setting.

Since that time, DRI has been involved with large scale applied research efforts involving numerous sectors within government, private industry, and educational institutions. DRI's capabilities, experience, and personnel have allowed it to participate in landmark research projects for nearly 60 years.
